Adele Laurie Blue Adkins also known professionally Adele is an English singer-songwriter. She was born in Tottenham, North London, May 5th 1988. Originally she's from West Norwood, South London. Adele was graduated from The BRIT School for Performing Arts & Technology. in May 2006, where she was classmate of Leona Lewis and Jessie J.
Adele's career begin in 2006. She had recorded a three-song demo for a class project and gave it to a friend who posted it on Myspace where it became very successful and led to a phone call from music label XL Recordings. She doubted if the offer was real because the only record company she knew was Virgin Records, and she took a friend with her to the meeting. Nick Huggett at XL recommended Adele to manager Jonathan Dickins at September Management and in June 2006 Dickins became her official representative. September was managing Jamie T at the time and this proved a major attraction for Adele who was a big fan of the British singer-songwriter. Huggett then signed Adele to XL in September 2006. Adele provided vocals for Jack Penate's song, "My Yvonne", from his debut album. Adele's breakthrough song, "Hometown Glory", was released in October 2007.
In 2008, She released her second single "Chasing Pavements" who get into top 40 hit on the US (Billboard Hot 100) peaked at number 21 and the song has sold over 1,200,000 download. She also released her debut album "19", named for her age at the time she started recording it. The album recieved generally positive reviews from music critics. The album has sold over 1,800,000 copies in UK and 1,300,000 in US and the worlwide sales for the album is estimated at 4,000,000 copies.
In 2009, she recieved 4 nomination in 51st Grammy Awards: Record Of The Year, Song Of The Year, Best Female Pop Vocal Performances (all for Chasing Pavements) and Best New Artist and winning 2 for Best New Artist and Best Female Pop Vocal Performances.
In 2010, she released another single "Rolling In The Deep". This song was extremely success in the U.S. The song spent 7 weeks in number 1 of Billboard Hot 100 after 24 week in the charts. The song sold over 5,327,000 in the U.S, making it one of the best-selling single in U.S in 2011. The song also peaked at number 1 in UK Singles charts. In 2011, she released her sophomore album 21.
The album debuted at number 1 in Billboard 200, selling 352,000 copies in the first week and spent 13 non-consecutive weeks at number 1. The album has sold over 4,100,000 copies in U.S (as of October 2011). Since it entry on the Billboard 200 since February 2011, it has not charted lower than number four, remained in the top five for 35 weeks (as of October 2011).
The album also has a huge success in her home country. Selling 208,000 in the first week and debuted at number 1 on UK Album Charts. The album has sold over 3,100,000 copies in U.K, making it the best-selling album of 2011 in UK. As of October 2011, the global sales for 21 is estimated at 10,000,000 copies worldwide.
In 2011, she released the second single from her album "Someone Like You". The song accompanied just by a simple piano sound in the song. The song received many postive reviews, especially Adele's vocal performance in the song praised by the music critics. The song has charted number 1 in Billboard Hot 100 and UK Singles Charts. The well-known performance for the song in the 2011 BRIT Awards, which it gained postive reviews for her performance and 2011 MTV Video Music Awards which it recevied a stading ovation.
She also released another single, the latest single was "Set Fire To The Rain" which has charted at number 72 in Billboard Hot 100 and sold over 500,000 copies, and "Rumour Has It" will released in Fall 2011.
